"I wanted a divorce because you betrayed me."
I spoke coldly and then drew a deep breath, trying to keep my emotions in check. "But that doesn't mean we have to become enemies. The kids need us to—"
"That's enough," Yvonne interrupted me. "Cole, stop using the kids as an excuse. We're divorced. You'll look after Jonas, and I'll look after Xavier. Let's not cross paths again, alright?"
Looking at her, I suddenly realized how wide the chasm between us was. For me, even if Xavier was staying with her, he was still my son. I'd still care for him.
Yet Yvonne had stopped caring about Jonas.
With a wry smile, I shook my head. "Alright. If that's what you want."
At that moment, we heard a loud noise from the living room. Then came the sound of Jonas crying.
We rushed over to see Jonas curled up on the ground. Beside him was a shattered vase. Xavier was standing nearby with an innocent look on his face. "I didn't push him. He fell on his own."
