Chapter 2
The next morning, Tiffany woke up early and started treating Micah. When the servant came into the room, she managed to put away the needles in the nick of time, but she did not have enough time to put his nightshirt back on.
The servant blushed and immediately retreated from the room upon seeing Micah's muscular and bare chest.
Soon after that incident, rumors about the Blake family's daughter-in-law being desperate for love started circulating within the household.
Upon hearing the rumors, Quinlan stormed into the room, pointed at Tiffany, and said angrily, "You shameless woman! How could you take advantage of my son when he's in this state?
"Don't you touch hi—"
Quinlan was suddenly at a loss for words when she saw Tiffany.
Before her eyes was an elegant young woman dressed in a green skirt and a blouse with side buttons that outlined her slender waist. The skirt was also laced with hand-embroidered flowers and birds.
Her midnight-black hair flowed from her shoulders, and her complexion was fair and creamy. Her eyes dazzled in the light under a pair of arched eyebrows. Coupled with her overall look, one would say that she was a classic beauty and as pretty as a painting.
She looked nothing like the woman yesterday.
People were generally drawn to beauty, and her docile appearance had indeed made a good impression, causing Quinlan to relax visibly.
However, the uneasiness started growing again when Quinlan recalled what had happened yesterday.
'Just you wait. I'll kick you out of my house if Micah doesn't wake up in three days.'
After a while, Grannie Blake came into the room with crutches and a hopeful smile on her face. She wanted to see if her grandson was awake. Her disappointment showed after seeing that her grandson was still asleep.
She was also shocked upon seeing Tiffany but was no doubt pleased with her elegance.
Taking her hand, Grannie Blake wanted to give Tiffany the jade bracelet that she was wearing but later noticed the string of beads that Tiffany was wearing. The beads were round and even had a faint fragrance.
"You’re religious?"
Grannie Blake was even more delighted now that she knew Tiffany was religious as she felt that people who were tended to be kind-hearted.
Tiffany chose not to answer the question.
Meanwhile, Quinlan looked at her with a frown.
Smiling, Grannie Blake said to Tiffany, "Young girl, make yourself at home."
Tiffany nodded her head in reply. She would treat others warmly as long as they were being nice to her.
After that, Grannie Blake took out some documents and placed them in Tiffany's hand. Tiffany was slightly shocked when she saw that they were marriage certificates.
'That's it...? I'm married...?'
Quinlan stepped forward and helped Grannie Blake out of the room. As soon as they were outside, Quinlan said with a dark expression, "Mom, are you really going to accept her as your granddaughter-in-law? You can't be serious?"
Grannie Blake blinked and replied, "As long as Micah wakes up, I don't care about her social status."
In the bedroom, Tiffany was seen sitting cross-legged on the carpet while carefully monitoring Micah's condition. While she was unable to completely remove the poison, she was nevertheless confident that Micah would wake up soon.
Later in the evening, Tiffany performed dry needling on him again. The special technique that she was using required a high level of concentration, thus leaving her mentally drained after each treatment session.
The next day, an expert came by to check on Micah's condition.
"Congratulations, Ma'am. Mr. Blake's condition is improving, and he should wake up in a few days. It truly is a miracle."
Upon hearing the good news, Grannie Blake patted her thigh in delight and started praising Tiffany, saying that she was the lucky star of the Blake family.
Feeling embarrassed when praised, Tiffany blushed slightly.
Tiffany stole a glance at Quinlan and frowned slightly when she saw her expression.
'Why does she look so uneasy now that she knows her son is waking up soon?'
With a cold expression, Quinlan asked, "Doctor, didn't you say before that there was almost no hope of Micah waking up? Why the sudden change in opinion? Were you lying before? You'd better not be, for the price of lying is way too great for you to bear."
"I'm telling the truth, Ma'am. Mr. Blake will wake up anytime now."
Hearing his words, Quinlan's expression darkened even further.
'Micah is waking up soon. Does this mean that I'll have to accept Tiffany Young as my daughter-in-law?'
The thought of the Blake family giving Tiffany a grand welcome into the family displeased her greatly. Not only that, she would have to apologize to Tiffany in front of all the guests as well.
'She's just an illegitimate daughter from the countryside. How dare she ask for an apology from me? How would other people think of me? No, I’m not going to let that happen. Besides, Micah has already been unconscious for so long. A few more days won’t hurt.'
Quinlan's gaze hardened as she walked into the room with a bottle of sleeping pills. When she saw the doctor going into Micah's bedroom shortly after, Quinlan could not help but smile.
'Micah isn’t going to wake up anytime soon. What are you going to do now, Tiffany Young?'
In the bedroom, Tiffany saw the doctor administering intravenous fluids to Micah, but she did not think much about it.
She would have to perform dry needling on him tonight and tomorrow morning. Micah should wake up tomorrow night according to this schedule.
She would not have to worry about getting kicked out from the Blake family anymore.
However, Micah showed no signs of waking up even when it was already late at night. Grannie Blake was getting more and more disappointed, and tears started welling up in her eyes.
"Don't worry, Grannie. Everything is going to be okay," Tiffany tried to comfort her.
Quinlan stood up, looked at Tiffany with a hint of pride, and said, "Time's up. It's been three days already. Get out of my house now."
Tiffany glanced at her watch and replied, "There are still two more hours. Who knows? He may wake up anytime now."
Quinlan said confidently, "No, he won't."
'Nobody knows about Micah's current condition except me. Trying to make your way up the social ladder by marrying into a wealthy family? You chose the wrong family to mess with, young girl.'
Looking at her with open hostility and disdain, Quinlan said, "This whole 'ward-off wedding' is just mere superstition anyway. Don't even think about getting into the Blake family like this."
With a defiant tone in her voice, she then ordered a servant to pack up Tiffany's belongings and later shoved them toward her. Another two servants came and started dragging her out of the house.
Looking at her with Quinlan's rage reflected in her eyes, Tiffany twitched her lips and said, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "How can you be so sure that he won't wake up? Perhaps you've done something to him?"
A wave of panic swept over Quinlan as she raised her voice and shouted, "Shut your mouth! He's my son. Of course, I want him to wake up. Nobody cares about him more than I do."
"Oh is it? If that's true, why did yo—"
Just as Tiffany was about to question further, she suddenly felt a cold, hard stare on her back, making her body tense up.
Everybody was looking at the figure behind her, their eyes filled with shock and fear.
Tiffany turned around stiffly and soon found herself staring into a pair of deep-set eyes.
Holding her breath, Tiffany clenched her fists slightly as she broke into a sweat.
The stare was hard and cold.
She could not help but think of the recent gossip that she had heard. Rumor had it that the young master of the Blake family was a contemplative and ruthless person. Nobody in South City would dare to get on his wrong side.
Taking over YU Conglomerate at a young age, he was known for turning the company into one of the world's top 20 companies in just a few years. Thanks to that, he became the wealthiest man in South City, and it was said that his social status had surpassed that of his father. He was also deemed to be the new star in the corporate world.
Walking slowly down the stairs in a black-colored nightshirt, he was like a god who descended from the skies above, staring at his followers with a cold and condescending attitude.
