Jeff chimed in, "Exactly. Your mother and I want to enjoy some time alone. You'll just be in the way."
Beverly felt abandoned.
Casper had only been here for a day, and her parents were already siding with him?
Casper, smiling, put his arm around Beverly's shoulder. "Mom, Dad, I was just about to suggest heading back. I'm really sorry for the trouble last night."
Emma waved dismissively. "No trouble at all. Come by anytime. If Beverly gives you a hard time, just come over, and I'll take care of it."
Beverly felt an absurd sensation, as if overnight, her parents had swapped children, treating Casper as their own and her as an outsider.
They didn't have much to pack. Beverly's luggage from that morning hadn't even been unpacked before Casper was ushering her out.
All the way home, Beverly looked at Casper incredulously. "What kind of spell did you cast on my parents?"
Casper raised an eyebrow. "Maybe it's the magic of love.
