I didn’t go home.
Driving back there felt too suffocating, too close to everything I was trying to escape, especially after what had just happened with Nicholas. My head was spinning, my heart racing, and I needed to breathe—just breathe—and think without my mother barging in, asking about wedding plans or telling me how beautiful the photos turned out.
So, instead of heading home, I drove straight to Cindy’s apartment.
It wasn’t exactly planned. I just ended up there, parked in front of her building, staring at the tall glass windows of her sleek, modern place. Cindy was one of my closest friends, and I trusted her more than anyone. I figured if anyone could help me untangle this mess in my head, it would be her.
