My phone buzzed again for the third time in ten minutes. I didn’t even need to look at it to know who was calling. My mother, naturally. She wasn’t the kind of person to take silence as an answer. When she wanted something, she made sure to get it.
I sighed, finally picking up. Before I could say a word, her voice, sharp and commanding, came through the line.
“Alicia, where are you? We’ve been waiting! This pre-wedding photoshoot is scheduled for today, not tomorrow.”
“Mom, it’s not like the wedding is real,” I muttered under my breath, but of course, I didn’t dare say that out loud. I could already picture her horrified reaction if I did. Instead, I sighed again, louder this time for dramatic effect, and said, “I’m on my way.”
“Make it quick,” she said, and hung up without waiting for a response. Classic Mom.
