“Thanks for helping me. I can’t believe my ex stalked me,” she said as I gently disentangled my arm from hers.
“Yeah, no worries. I’m just helping.”
The music pulsed around us, lights flashing, people laughing and moving like they had nothing else in the world to care about. But my mind wasn’t here.
I kept glancing around the club like a lunatic.
Because for a moment—just a moment—I thought I saw her.

But maybe it was the lights, or my brain playing tricks on me. She wasn’t here. She couldn’t be.
