Chapter 109 Back to Where it Started

I turn the engine off as I arrive at the location.
Taking a deep breath, I step out of the car and head towards the lake—the place where everything started between me and Daniel. Now, all of those moments are only memories.
I don’t know why I chose this place to meet Nicholas, knowing full well that the lake holds so many memories for me. Maybe it’s the calmness, the way the water always seems so still no matter how chaotic my mind is. Something about it brings me peace, even though it also carries the sting of the past.
This was where Daniel and I used to come to escape from the world, where we talked about our future—one that never happened. It was also the place I ran to the day my parents announced my marriage to Nicholas. I had come here to talk to Daniel, to try and make sense of everything. And of course, Nicholas appeared from behind a tree, arrogant smirk in place, acting as if he had won.
Just thinking about it makes my blood boil.
