Chapter 17: Seeing her true colors.

“Daniel? Daniel?” Melanie called on the other end of the line, but Daniel was not responding. “I just realized that you have quite the way of speaking. It seems like you are saying good things, but you are in fact condemning a person,” Daniel said, and Melanie paused. "Daniel, whatever you heard...” she started to say. “Did you send pictures of us to Elena while I was married?” he asked, but the other line was silent. “I see,” he said. Melanie seems to realize he has already come to a decision and has hurried to say something. “Whatever Elena has told you is not true!” she insisted. “The correct answer to that question is no, Melanie,” he said, and she broke into tears. “Why is she doing this to me? Why does she hate me so much?” Melanie cried, making Daniel’s anger grow. Even to this point, she insisted on blaming Elena. “Your life is too dirty and messy for me, Melanie. I have protected you as much as I can. From now on, you are on your own,” he said, ending the call. She
