Chapter 7 Arabella Put Me up to It
Ezra drove Beth Ruth back to their place, a small cottage on the outskirts of town.
Beth Ruth was weak and fell asleep after crying for a long time. She fell asleep in the car.
When he arrived home, he put her in bed and covered her with the blanket, kissed her brow compassionately, and was just about to get up and leave when his hand was pulled.
When he turned around, he only saw that Beth Ruth had woken up at some point, and was now looking at him with red eyes, carefully saying, "Brother Ezra, I really don't blame Arabella for this, just pretend it's over, okay? Do not pursue it any further..."
"Beth ..." Ezra looked complicated.
Beth Ruth sat up and clutched his hand in supplication, "Brother Ezra, please! I don't want my embarrassment to stain your eyes, I just want to show you the best and most beautiful version of myself!"
Ezra just felt his throat ache as he gently stroked her head, "No matter what happens, Beth will always be the best in my eyes!"
Beth Ruth's eyes lit up, "So you're promising me...?"
Ezra nodded with difficulty, "Yeah, promise."
After saying that, he helped Beth Ruth lie down. "Good girl, don't worry and take a good rest first! When you wake up, everything will be alright! Just close your eyes and I'm here with you."
"Thank you." Beth Ruth smiled softly.
Ezra lost in thought and looked at Beth Ruth's sleeping face, his heart tracing to three years ago. Thinking of Arabella, his eyes instantly became cold.
Hopefully it wasn't Arabella who did this, otherwise, he wasn't sure what he would have done!
Waiting until Beth Ruth had fallen asleep again, Ezra then left, softly closing the door ...
"Make an appointment to Austin City Jail. I want to see Jack Smith!"
Outside the door, Ezra hung up the phone and immediately went downstairs.
And behind him, Beth Ruth pulled open the door and looked at the man's departing back, a grim smile slowly curving the corners of her mouth.
She just knew Ezra would check it out!
Only when he sees Jack Smith with his own eyes he will believe that everything was planned by Arabella!
1 pm, at Austin City Jail
Jack Smith stepped out with the wardens in tow, and his eyes widened in surprise when he saw who was coming. "Mr. James, what are you doing here?"
Ezra looked at him coldly and cut to the chase, "Why did you force...Beth three years ago, and who ordered you to do it?"
Jack Smith looked like he was startled and his eyes dodged, not daring to look directly at Ezra, "I've said before, I did something stupid in a moment of confusion, no one directed me at all..."
"Still not telling the truth?" Ezra stood up, directly kicked the person on the ground.
"Mr... Mr. James, What I'm telling you is the truth! Really!"
Seeing that he still refused to tell the truth, Ezra grabbed him by the collar and punched him directly on his body and face like a sudden rain of fists.
A miserable scream immediately rang out in the room.
"Mr. James, I'll tell you! Don't hit me, OK?"
Hearing this, Ezra then let go of his hand, got up and looked askance, "Say!"
"Yes, yes..." Jack Smith gritted his teeth as if he had made up his mind, "It's Missy Arabella!"
"You think I'd believe that?" Ezra sneered, "If it's really Arabella, why didn't you say so three years ago?"
Jack Smith, lying on the ground, got up with difficulty and knelt on the ground, swearing to God. "I swear that I have never said anything false, and if I do, I shall be damned to death!"
Ezra's eyes sank, "Go on!"
Jack Smith poured out the "truth" of that year, "Missy Arabella was blinded by jealousy and couldn't see you and Miss Beth getting along, so she asked me to... at first I refused, but She threatened me with my father, and I had no choice..."
"Where's the evidence?" Ezra's gaze was sharp.
Jack Smith laughed bitterly and sat down paralyzed on the floor. "Mr. James, if there was evidence, do you think I would still be willing to take the rape charge and go to jail?"
Ezra didn't say anything, after a long time, he suddenly lifted his foot and stomped hard on his knee. "If you dare to have half a false word, I will make your life worse than death!"
"Ouch!" The miserable scream rang out again.
Jack Smith cried out in pain. "Mr. James, trust me, please! I would never dare to lie to you ..."
Ezra's gaze was gloomy and terrifying, kicked him over and turned directly away with no expression.
In the streets of the main city, a low-profile black Maybach with smooth lines whistled past, the rumble of the engine scared the passersby to make way.
The speed was almost 120 mph, and the man's deep, pond-like eyes were slightly closed, and the dangerous ruthlessness inside was constantly surging. The bony fingers holding the steering wheel are clearly defined, only the bulging veins reveal the man's anger.
Arabella was looking for death!
He knew better than anyone else how much damage this incident brought to Beth three years ago, and she once tried to kill herself.
He said he wanted to protect her, but ironically, the culprit had been hiding beside him all these years!
However, what Ezra didn't know was that he hadn't left Austin City Jail for long before someone else went in...
Jack Smith wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, stinking of pain. "Damn, Ezra this fucking guy hit quite hard! Tell me, how are you going to compensate me for this?"
The girl sitting across from him was beautifully dressed and had exquisite makeup.
It was Beth Ruth.
Looking at the man's bruised and swollen appearance, her eyes could not help but flash a trace of disgust, and spoke in a deep voice. "Did you tell him all according to what I taught you to say?"
"Of course. Word for word!" Jack Smith said, "Beth Ruth, you are really something. Putting me take the charge and blame is not enough, but you also dragged Arabella into it, aren't you afraid that if Ezra finds out the truth one day..."
Beth Ruth blushed and quickly interrupted, "I've arranged it all so that he can't find out as long as you don't say anything wrong!"
"Fine, fine! Then when will you help me out?"
A few days ago, Beth Ruth had come to him and said she wanted him to cooperate in a play.
After the deed was done, she would immediately get him out and even quoted a reward that would keep him from worrying for several lifetimes.
Jack Smith grabbed the woman's hand, "Beth, you're all I have, and you can't forget me!"
Beth Ruth frowned impatiently, "Ezra is watching you now! Wait a couple of days!"
Arabella had no idea how she had gotten back from James's house, and by the time she came back to her senses, she was already standing outside the villa's doorway.
If the cab master hadn't called her, she would have even forgotten her bag in the car.
As night fell, all the surrounding villas were lit up, except for her and Ezra's villa, which was bleak and dark.
Arabella turned on the lights and nestled right into the couch, she had no appetite and didn't bother to fix dinner.
The scene of Ezra hugging Beth as she hurried away lingered in her mind, and she wondered a little if Ezra would go and find out the truth, or did he only believe Beth's side of the story?
For some reason, her heartbeat restlessly strong ...
