Chapter 297: David's Attempt at Reconciliation
David stood outside the familiar door, his heart pounding in his chest as he gathered the courage to knock. He had come to see Emily, hoping to mend the rift between them, but he knew that convincing her to talk would be an uphill battle.
Taking a deep breath, he rapped his knuckles against the door, the sound echoing in the hallway. He waited anxiously, his palms growing clammy as he listened for any sign of movement inside.
After what felt like an eternity, the door creaked open, revealing Sarah, Emily's sister. Her expression was guarded as she regarded him, her eyes betraying a hint of wariness.
"David," she greeted him, her voice cautious. "What brings you here?"
David swallowed nervously, meeting Sarah's gaze with determination. "I came to see Emily. Is she here?"
Sarah's expression softened slightly, sympathy flickering in her eyes. "She's here, but I'm not sure she's up for visitors right now."
