Chapter 16
In no time, they arrived in front of the manor. Miguel instructed the driver, "Wait here."
He got out of the car and walked inside.
The lights in the manor soon turned on. The driver told himself it was probably just a quick stop to grab something. After all, that was how it always played out on TV—the wealthy crossing half the city for a single document. He told himself not to overthink it.
Miguel entered the elevator and pressed the button for the second basement level. When the doors opened again, motion-sensor lights illuminated the basement's layout.
There were three corridors, each leading in a different direction. The air was damp and carried a musty, decaying smell.
He strode down one of the hallways. It was silent except for the clicking of his leather shoes on the floor, adding to the ominous atmosphere.
