KIMBERLY’S POV
At the backstage of the hall, I stared down at the kneeling man, the frigid marble floor under my heels felt strong and stabilizing. Michael. Once my tormentor, my enemy; now reduced to a sorry, shattered figure with his costly suit ripped and his hands quivering as he grabbed at my dress, his bloody hands staining the fabric.
"Kimberly, please. " His tone wavered, hard with need. “I was wrong. I was sightless. I never should have” He choked back, his lips trembling. “I should have shielded you from all the ill treatment you endured back at the house but I was a bad brother and failed to protect you.”
A bitter chuckle escaped my lips. "Seriously? " I looked down at him. “Michael, you should have done a lot of things, but you never did. You just stood and watched me suffer. As that wasn’t enough, you added to my suffering with your downgrading words.”
Staring up at me, his eyes red-rimmed and empty of remorse, his hands gripped about the fabric of my gown. “I was a fool.
