KIMBERLY'S POV
The cafeteria buzzed with the usual chatter and clinking utensils, but all my attention was riveted to the man opposite me. Xavier hadn't eaten much, his eyes narrowing at me, an almost imperceptible sound escaping his throat.
"Why are you asking that now?" His tone was neutral, but I caught how his fingers curled around the fork just a bit tighter.
I shrugged, my chin tilting toward the basketball court outside. "I saw some guys playing earlier, and it reminded me of high school. I remember seeing you play once."
Xavier arched an eyebrow, intrigue piqued. "Oh? When was this?”
I drummed my fingers against my chin, miming deep reflection. "I actually don't remember what day, but just walking by the court, oh-so-happily, so many people were out. You had like a competition of classes against classes or whatever. "
