Chapter 61
Kimberly's POV
As I stepped through the gates of my old high school, the memories hit me like a freight train.
It wasn't all that different: a faded outline of basketballs painted in the ground, kids bundled up in clusters under the huge oak tree that shaded a significant portion of the courtyard, faint echoes of kids playing on the courts squeaking sneakers on the pavement. So surreal it was to be here after all this time since graduating.
I let out a long, deep breath, and the volunteer badge that was hanging from my neck bobbled up and down with it. At the time, this had seemed such a great idea - signing up for this sports charity event: give something back, devote my time to other people instead of to myself and that ungodly mess I'd created with my personal life.
But now, I am here and not ready in any way.
