Chapter 31
KIMBERLY’S POV
My fingers had quivered over this; fingers that now tightened further on Xavier's as the room fell silent and all those present focusing their stare at me. I ached in the chest from holding the force which seemed to bear upon me from the intent of every individual: Xavier's family, powerful, influential, and completely unknown. I belonged nowhere, yet here was where I'd have to tread.
He breathed so hard, and muttered, "It's okay," at the same time; in an undertone of course; touched my hand and went on further, one pace before me.
I took a deep breath and willed my feet to move forward as I followed him into the grand dining room. There were over ornate surroundings: crystal chandeliers over a remarkably long, highly polished mahogany table with sterling flatware and centerpieces that looked as though each could belong in a museum-whosoever sat on that table exudes such assurance.
