Chapter 27
MADISON’S POV
"Why bother coming in at all if you can't even handle a simple assignment?" I whispered hotly at the man opposite me.
My supposedly father sat limply with his drooping shoulders, as his eyes scanned the ground to his side like a little kid whose hand was stuck in the candy jar. It was just irritating me.
"Well?" I snarled, my patience now worn thinner than thin.
"I'm sorry," he said incoherently. "Those men I hired, they got arrested."
I stared at him, bowels wringing with a mix of incredulity and anger. "Arrested? How?!'
"They messed up," he finally managed to say, the words tumbling out without so much as his looking at me. "Somebody interfered. Somebody had to save her."
Those words kicked my chest-somebody saved Kimberly. Anger brimmed in me, inside and out, and I clicked my teeth. "You are useless! Any time I need you for anything, you botch it up!"
