XAVIER’S POV "You're impossible, Kimberly," I growled aloud, staring up at the penthouse ceiling where her words still sliced at me. The room was dark save for the little light that managed to leak in, reflected from the city skyline outside my window. My chest was tight, and once again, it was hard to keep my attention anywhere else. I heard the echo of her voice in my head, and the words rang inside my skull like a gramophone record which wouldn't stop. "Last night was a mistake. We are just a marriage of convenience. My jaw clamped as my fists curled into the sheets beneath me. Was it all that it had been for her? A mistake? I'd tried showing her a part of me that nobody else ever saw, but she'd thrown it right back in my face. "Just a contract," I snarled bitterly, sitting up and running a hand through my hair. My chest ached, refusing to shift-like with every remembered thought of her pushing me away hit closer and closer to home, reminding me more and more of something I'd spent
