Chapter 2 Trainee

OLIVIA'S POV. It was drizzling and I had been in the traffic for about thirty minutes now. The celebratory party had started long ago and I wasn't there yet. "This damn traffic." I cursed under my breath. I finally got to the venue, and by then I was about forty minutes late. The place was booming with loud music. I wondered if the people here were not getting a headache. I had just been here for a few minutes, and my head felt like it was about to explode. I looked around for Damien, but I couldn't get even a glimpse of him. There was a door upstairs which had 'VIP' inscription written boldly on it. I sighed and began to mount the stairs, hoping to see him there. As soon as I stretched my hand towards the doorknob, someone else opened it from inside and I gave way so the person could pass. But as soon as the person stepped out, I recognized her immediately. Serena Thorne ; the new trainee who spilled coffee on Damien. She was putting on a white stoned dress, and her makeup was very light, but I couldn't lie, she looked really good. Infact she looked stunning. Her own eyes lit up in recognition, but it didn't look like she was happy to see me. Not like I care anyway. She was just a trainee, what was she doing in the VIP section? "Hello ma'am." She greeted and I sized her up with my eyes. I knew her greeting was fake, She just didn't want to look like a bad person. "Hi." I said and she pressed her lips into a straight line. She looked as if she was waiting for me to speak again. "Where is Damien? Is he here?" I asked and she furrowed her brows in confusion. "Who?" She asked and I almost rolled my eyes. "The boss." I said calmly. "He just went out." She announced. I wasn't that surprised, because I knew how impatient Damien was. He probably left because he couldn't wait for me anymore. But, where had he gone to? "Did he specify where he was going to?" I asked Serena, who still stood there. She seemed very calm and I thought about using her calmness in my own favor. "He didn't say anything about where he was going to." She said and I nodded. "Okay, thanks." I said and made a move to go inside the smoky VIP section. "If you have something to tell him, you can just tell me and I'll pass it across to him whenever he gets back." Serena said and my eyes narrowed. If it were someone else, I wouldn't have given it much thoughts, but it was Serena Thorne! Now I know why I didn't like her from the start. I immediately changed my thoughts about her calm demeanor. She was a fake and I was glad she was gradually showing her real nature. Maybe because I was quiet or because I froze at the door, Serena thought I felt bad and spoke again. "Ma'am, I didn't mean to..." "Were you both together?" I asked as I turned to face her again and she slowly nodded. I almost let out a bitter laughter. She had been here for weeks now, she was even hanging out with Damien and she claimed to not know his name? Did she also want to pretend like she doesn't know what was going on between Damien and I? "Nevermind, it's nothing important." I said and turned towards the stairs to leave, when I heard voices coming from the bathroom next to the door. "Haha, who are you kidding? Olivia has been with Damien for so many years, but their relationship remains unchanged. He's only with her for fun. So, don't take her too seriously." A male voice said. "But if he doesn't deal with her properly, it would be troublesome when he breaks up with her. She might cling onto him." A female voice replied. "It's quite obvious that they are not in love. They both are just using each other. Olivia wants money and power, so he should just give it to her..you know, for her stress." The male voice said and let out a mocking laughter. I wanted to barge into the bathroom to let them know I had been listening, but as soon as I turned, my gaze landed on Serena, who stared at me nervously. "Ma'am, I'm sorry..they didn't mean that." She said. "And why are you explaining their actions?" I snapped. Why would Serena be apologizing if she didn't do anything? From how nervous she looked, my fears were confirmed. She was not in an ordinary relationship with Damien. She looked pale, and tried to say something but I didn't even want to listen anymore. I had other things to do anyway, so I needed to get out of here. I quickly climbed down the stairs and exited from the party. Later that night, I was already asleep when I felt an unusual weight on my chest. I knew at once that Damien was back, I was so used to his body. I attempted to move away. "I just came back, I'm tired." Damien said, stopping me in my tracks. "Damien, please.." I said, but he ignored my words. I didn't say anything, but his actions became bolder after seeing that I had woken up. He turned a deaf ear and had no intention of paying attention to my words. He only concentrated on doing what he wanted. I knew I couldn't push him away, so I gave up struggling and let him continue. After all, we were the closest and most familiar with each other in bed. After we were done, I pulled the blanket up to my chest and sat up. I turned on the light and looked at him. "Why didn't you pick me up?" I inquired. The party hadn't ended yet at that time. I didn't want to disturb you." The light rays gave an unusual glow to the hickeys printed on my exposed skin. I got up and went to the kitchen to take a few sips of warm water to make my throat feel better. The people in the VIP section had grown up with him. I remembered the unpleasant experience from when I had followed him to meet them for the first time. From then on, every time they met, they would ridicule me either secretly or openly. At first, I pretended not to care. However, I wasn't one to put up with being bullied, so I argued with them. Later on, when there were such parties, I wouldn't attend any of them, let alone today's. When I returned to the room, Damien was already sitting up too, he had put on some clothes, I think he wanted to leave. I didn't say anything to him, I picked up my phone and took a day off. I really needed to clear my head. "You already met Serena. I want you to mentor her." He said and my eyes narrowed. Was he trying to mock me now? There were other trainees, so why Serena? "Teach her yourself, or people would say I'm clinging to you." I said. "Pfft. It's not as if they are wrong. You have been following me for years, so you should know what they mean. Teach Serena well." He said and put on his jacket then he left the room, leaving me dumbfounded. Of course, I understood what he meant—he was interested in Serena. This time around, I understood that Serena was different from the other girls. He had never once mentioned anyone, but she was an exception. I smiled bitterly, I wondered if he had ever seen me as anything more than just a pass time. It really seemed that Serena had caught his eye.
