Claire’s eyes filled with tears, blurring her vision of the vengeful Madeline before her. “Please, Madeline,” she cried, her voice raw with anguish. “Whatever I did, I did it for my daughter. And if Ethan is to find out, I want to be the one to tell him. Please don’t do this. I’m begging you.” She sank to her knees, clasping her hands together in a final, desperate plea. Madeline regarded her with icy indifference, her expression unmoved. “Oh, don't you worry, my dear. I will do the honours because I want to see Ethan's expression when he learns the truth."
