Emma stood up abruptly, her heart skipping a beat as the doorbell echoed through the spacious hallway. She approached the sleek, modern intercom system, its screen flickering to life as she pressed the button. The camera outside the door revealed the familiar face of Olivia, standing there with an impatient expression.
“Oh my God, it’s Olivia,” Emma whispered urgently, turning to face Emily, who sat calmly on the couch, her eyes widening slightly at the news. “Quickly, go to your room. Remember, you need to pretend like you haven’t regained your memory yet. Get in your wheelchair when you get there, okay?”
Emily nodded, the tension in the room palpable as she hurriedly left the living room, her movements a little more fluid than someone who had supposedly been bedridden for months. Emma waited, holding her breath, until she was certain that Emily had made it to her room and was out of sight.
