Olivia looked at the bowl of porridge in front of her. "Thank you," she said softly.
"I thought that after we got married, things between us would get better. But it seems it's not what I hoped for."
Olivia stayed silent.
Claude didn't seem surprised by her lack of response. Instead, he continued, "When will you stop keeping your distance from me? I hope there will come a day when you can smile at me naturally, lean on me naturally, and be with me naturally—even grow old together."
His voice grew softer as he said "grow old together," and his eyes stayed fixed on hers, steady and serious.
Olivia blinked, caught off guard. These words… How could they come from him? She had never expected him to speak this way. But deep down, she couldn't shake the feeling that his words were just meant to sway her.
