As the call ended, Olivia listened to the empty disconnect tone echoing in her ear. She didn't move, holding the phone there for a long time before slowly lowering it.

The next morning, Layla left her house early and drove straight to a hospital. It had taken a lot of effort and several connections to track down where Lucian was staying, but she had managed.
After parking her car, she stepped out and entered the building. She took the elevator to the designated floor.
When the doors opened and she stepped out, she was immediately stopped by someone. A hand shot out, blocking her path.
Startled, Layla looked up.
