Mary's face softened, her expression tinged with sadness.
After a moment of silence, Olivia raised her hand to wipe the tears off her cheek. "At the end of the day, no matter the reason, it must have felt like I abandoned him."
Mary gave her a small, reassuring smile. "When he's older, he'll understand."
"I hope so."
Mary gently took Olivia's arm. "Come on, let's go upstairs."

After showering and changing into fresh clothes, Olivia sat quietly on the edge of her bed. Mary entered the room, carrying a cup of steaming ginger tea.
"How's Lucian?" Olivia asked softly as she looked up.
