Chapter 55
ACHILLES.
I stare at my face in the mirror. The sound of Duncan’s scream is still stuck in my mind, playing over and over again like a sick echo, reminding me of the life that I just put on the line for this mission.
It’s been two days since he left.
We recovered his body just yesterday morning. It was dropped off at the gates, pulled by the horse and dragged around on the ground through the reins clasped around his cold unmoving hands. At this point, his face is unrecognizable, but the cameras that we found with him give it all away. It really was Duncan.
And miraculously, he managed to come home, at the very least.
Unless whoever is in that warehouse sent him back to us like that as a warning, much like the parting message that he had to say.
Either way, Duncan is dead now. We still haven’t checked the footage that he got. I can’t bring myself to even look at it.
The only thing keeping me standing right now is the funeral service I arranged for Duncan.
