The words drop on us like a bomb, sucking the oxygen from our atmosphere all at once. I take a deep breath and it’s as though my lungs are struggling.
I turn to Aristea, keeping my arm around Claudia as she stiffens next to me. “That’s not Claudia’s fault at all.”
She shakes her head. “Of course not, but now you can see why Kiernan would phrase it that way just to mess with all of you. You see, even other people thought it was like that. At first even your father thought it was like that. Everyone just assumed that it was you who attacked each other. People just didn’t believe that a Rogue would be alive at that time. It was simply not possible.”
I stare at her, not really believing the words coming from her mouth. However, at the same time, I do remember some of it. Some things are resonating with me. I do remember my father suggesting that I should cut ties with my friends. And the only friend I had at that time was Claudia.
