ACHILLES.
I stare at Tristan, not wanting to believe what’s going on. It’s delusion, I know. But the lie is far more comforting when I know that the reality waiting for me might just be too terrible for me to bear.
As though playing right along with it, Tristan stares at me. “What’s going on here?”
More footsteps rock the tunnels. I realize that he’s not alone. About a dozen of his men are now standing behind him, and he motions them to wait with a hint of mischief in his eyes. I glance back at the hole in the wall to see Sahari, but she also has men in her side now. They’re holding her by the arms, but she’s just staring at me. Guilt is written all over her face, glowing like a brand.
But it offers me no kind of comfort right now.
Tristan smiles like he knows this. “Disable her right now. I need to speak with him properly.”
“No!” Sahari yells from behind me, but one of the men injects something in her, and she crumples in his arms as though she’s made of jelly.
