Chapter Nine: By a Hair's Breadth
Layla clutched the dark leather wallet Alpha Canaan had left behind while he stormed out on her in the morning.
She spared a glance at the wallet tightly held in her grasp like a lucky charm as she sneaked out of her hiding spot and into the back of the waiting delivery van.
She ought not to have taken the wallet with her. She should have left it behind for it to be discovered by the hotel's room service and returned to its owner.
Her eyes flinched at the thought of how he had rejected her without a second thought. He hadn't even considered how she felt.
