Chapter Ninety Nine: Crashing Down
Sam hid behind a nearby building, waiting for his mom to leave.
He had been taken by surprise. His heart jumped to his throat when he spotted her at a distance.
He was glad that they had been amidst a crowd. If their path had crossed on an empty walkway, there would have been no escape for him.
His body moved first before he fully processed his thought.
He draped the cover of his hoodie over his head swiftly and snuck into the shadows.
"What is she doing here?" Sam wondered aloud.
He peeped through the side of the building to check if she had left.
When he couldn't find her amidst the crowd, he waited a few minutes more before he surreptitiously walked home.
He was at alert, moving at a swift pace.
He glanced over his back to confirm that he wasn't been followed when he reached his apartment location, and he rushed inside.
He took the elevator to his floor, hitting the floor lower to his own at first.
Then, when the elevator reached that floor, and no one walked in to accost
