"Why did you yell at her?" Marcus asked me once I reached the garden.
"Because everyone keeps telling me to get used to this way of life. They keep telling me to get used to stealing food, taking it from people who deserve the fruit of their labor. It's not a good thing, Marcus," I said.
Marcus sat beside me and handed me an apple. "We stole this, Marcus. I don't want to eat it."
"But at least get the seeds out," he said. "Keep the seeds and plant an apple tree. If you want to stop them, if you want them to stop, you take the lead. Maybe that's why you're here — to show them a better way of doing things. Very soon, they'll follow, Diana."
"Hope so," Marcus said.
"Good. Thank you," I told Marcus and rested my head on his shoulder.
