Chapter 4: Confusion
"Let go of me" I cried as a guy from nowhere had tackled me to the ground, taking both my wrists captive so there was no way that I could defend myself
"Who sent you?" was the voice in harsh reply, not loosening his grip by an inch, not that I could much against his build with free wrists.
"No one. Now let me go" I continued to plead but I did not need to be told that he did not believe me from the way he still held me down, pressing his weight on me in a way that was inappropriate at best
"Was it the rogues?" my offender kept on questioning me, his hands and body on mine, his eyes glaring at me like how my whole foster family used to.
"What rogues?" I asked confused. Today was just full of surprises, from my stranger dream to the stranger guest on the roof till realizing I could not take it anymore and now this.
"Don't play dumb! The rogues sent you" he increased his pressure, forcing me to go further down and tightened his grip on my arm.
"No! Please I don't know what you are talking about" my tears became even more visible as the pain was getting unbearable
"Liar!" he shouted at me as more of the tears fell. I wondered who he was and what he had against rogues or me for that matter.
"I am not lying please" I said as more tears began to fall. I began to regret leaving my foster parents home. Maybe they were right, maybe I should have been more grateful.
"That is enough Kane, she already said she is not working with the rogues" a man stepped forward for me and for the first time since we reached this place, I felt warm inside.
"And what if she is lying Karl? How do you explain her showing up in the alpha's car" Kane argued, his grip and glare firmly on me.
"Again, I am not lying, you have to believe me" I said, gaining more control over my tears and pushing them back.
"Let her go Kane. Now!" Karl barked, barely restraint his anger. I could see it in his eyes that he was ready to tear Kane off of me.
"I don't take orders from you" Kane's voice rose to match Karl's as their eyes were locked on each other. Any moment now, I feared that a fight would break out because of me.
"Sky!" Karl turned to look at the man he drove down to this place. And that was when I remembered hearing that Sky Claw was the new alpha of the pack after his father died in the great war.
"Let her go" Sky said simply, no emotion to be seen in those eyes as he stood there watching me get manhandled by a guard of his.
"But Alpha Sky…" Kane suddenly became flustered and if I was not in so much pain, I would have smirked "She… she might be…."
"Now!" again his voice was calm but it carried so much power, I wondered how he did that while Kane was getting off me. I could finally get back on my feet.
"What do you say to our alpha who spared you?" Kane glared at me as I whisked away from his grasps, running to Karl's direction. The only one I could trust for now.
"Shut up Kane!" Karl glared at him, fists clenched. It seemed that even after the intervention of the alpha, the tensions were still high.
"And if I don't?" Kane was inching closer, rising to the bait. I suddenly wanted a brawl, I wanted to see Kane suffer the shame of defeat.
"I will simply make you" Karl said moving to close the gap between them as well. I could see worry in the faces of the other guards only Sky was calm.
"I might be old and frail and may not have pointy claws but I still hold some power here. Don't I?" the only woman present scolded.
"Sorry Madame Gertrude" Karl said as he took a step back, towards me. His head was bowed and he could tell he was regretting losing control like that.
"She is the reason for everything" Kane said pointing at me "She still has not told us how she ended up in our alpha's car.
"That fact is true. We should remember we are still at war" the elder spoke for the first time since we arrived. He was not looking at me but to Sky.
"Come then my darling girl" madame Gertrude beckoned on me and I found my feet moving towards her "Yes dear. Come"
"Hi" i sounded stupid for saying that after everything that just happened, after one of them had put his hands on me and they just watched.
"It's okay dear" she began again, her voice as endearing as the name she called me "You don't need to be afraid of little old Gertrude"
"This is no way to treat a possible traitor Lady Gertrude" elder Dane spoke eyeing both I and the motherly woman suspiciously.
"Well, it is the way I choose to treat her and every other young and innocent person" madame Gertrude fired back, her rone still soft and gentle.
"This is pointless!" the elder sighed still facing us. I held firmly to Madame Gertrude's hand whenever he looked at me.
"Indeed it is" her voice still soft and a bright smile appearing on her wrinkled face as she squeezed my hand reassuringly.
"Sky!" Elder Dane turned to the alpha who was standing there, still with the same unreadable expression in those piercing blue eyes
"It has been a long day. Let everyone get some rest. We will take a decision tomorrow"
"And the spy?" Kane spoke up, sending a cold gaze my way that made me tremble when I remembered his hands on me a few minutes ago
"She is not a spy" Karl was quick to counter and I wondered if this cycle will ever end. I was already so tired and still hungry
"Whoever she is, she needs rest" madame Gertrude said as she drew me in closer. "And so does every single one of you"
"Alpha Sky what cell do we contain her?" Kane asked looking at the alpha of our pack. I could not believe I had escaped one cage to enter another.
"Oh I have a lovely cell up in my quarters young warrior" madame Gertrude said almost immediately and I could not hold back a smile.
"This is serious Gertrude!" the elder's irritation was not hidden anymore as he openly glared at the woman who was standing beside me.
"Sky dear, please put an end to this quickly. I am getting sleepy" she turned over to Sky, giving him a special smile.
"Madame Gertrude has taken responsibility of our stowaway and she would stay with her until further investigations are carried out"
"But Sky this is not how things are done. Especially not in war" the elder's voice had been lowered and his glare was completely gone when talking.
"This is final" with that he left with Karl in tow and everyone obeyed. The alpha of the Diamond Moon pack had spoken
