“Where is she?” I asked once I reached the pack hospital after the very short meeting I had attended.
“She's fine, look. She's asleep” Damian said, reeking of my mate. “Why do you smell like—?” I began, placing a hand on his shoulder and applying a bit of pressure.
“She rested on my shoulder,” Damian sighed with ragged breaths. “She just wanted to talk,” he added. “And you’re sure she’s fine?” I asked, gently releasing my hand from his shoulder.
Damian let out an audible breath and cleared his throat. “Yes,” he said, looking at me. “She’s fine. This is the first time I’ve seen her like that. I didn’t realize how at peace she could look after such a long time.” I smiled and stepped past Damian, eager to see Diana for myself. I opened the door slowly and stepped inside.
Her breathing came out in soft pants. She looked peaceful—tired. Exhausted was a better word. I stopped and stood by her bed, fighting every urge to reach for her pale face and touch her skin. “I
