“So what you're saying is that Damian wants to use me as a lab rat to test a drug that could potentially kill me—or rather, keep me in a vegetative state?” I said, blinking rapidly at Anna, who gave me a very enthusiastic nod.
“Yes,” she said. “Tell him he was wrong,” she added, gripping my arm. I hesitated for a moment but then spoke.
“He was wrong,” I said. “But he didn’t have a choice but to think about strange things.” I looked at Damian, whose eyes held a very silent plea and apology. “He should have looked for a third option,” I continued, glaring at Damian.
I genuinely felt sorry for him. “He should have,” I agreed, but then I wondered aloud, “But what if you didn’t know of a third option? Then he didn’t think enough.”
“He didn’t think about it well enough,” Anna said before I could finish my question. “He was rushed and quick to jump to conclusions. I didn’t want to lose you, I am honest.” Her grip on my hand softened now, and she looked at me with concern.
