“Alpha,” I wanted to answer, but it was as though the call was standing miles away from me, shouting “Alpha” at me. I could hear him, but it was dull—almost like when water is stuck in my ear and I struggle to hear anything.
“Alpha,” he said this time, accompanied by him shaking my hand briefly. I opened my eyes wide and focused on the scene in front of me. “Councilman Abraham would like to know whether or not there are charges levied against him or not.”
I placed a hand across my eyes briefly, wiping away the haze that was there before. “When we find the children,” I said. “The last thing I want right now is for you and the rest of my council members to be divided.” I met the eyes of each council member individually.
