The dim lights coming from Maddox’s ceilings slowly forced my eyes open. My gaze darted to my right where I felt sparks emanating from my palm that was bandaged from the bite I had given myself.
A weak smile parted my lips seeing my mate, holding my palm between his tenderly while he was seated on a stool beside the bed. He rested his forehead on his hold, I could feel it resonating in our mate bond, how burdened he was.
“Why didn’t you check on me earlier today?” I toned weakly and his eyes jolted awake, sparkles of relief gleaming in his eyes. “I spent all day with Gertrude and your mother, I didn’t get a call, not even a text from you.
