My eyes wandered from the steering wheel to Desiree seated beside me. She was looking out through the window watching the trees we drove past. I couldn’t see her reflection but the glass gave me the luxury of seeing her gloomy expression.
She has been like that ever since we started our journey. Quiet and gloomy. The once vibrant woman who used to be so full of life was now nothing but a bag of drowning emotions.
I placed my right palm on her left palm, holding it endearingly while she turned to me with a tiny forced smile. “Remember that time I nearly died after defeating Hunter?”
