The traditional ceremony proceeded with practiced precision. Pack members shared stories of the previous month, honoring achievements and addressing challenges. When Lucas's turn came, he spoke mechanically about increased border security and training improvements.
Throughout it all, he felt a strange pulling sensation in his chest—like a thread being tugged from somewhere beyond the pack lands. Several times, he found himself turning toward the eastern forest border without conscious intention.
As the formal part of the ceremony concluded, the celebration began in earnest. Food was served, music played, and pack members danced around the fires. Vanessa stayed close to Lucas, her hand often finding his arm or shoulder in casual touches that sent whispers rippling through the gathered crowd.
"Would you like to dance?" she asked as a slower song began
