Valine shuts her eyes, not allowing herself to yield to the bond. He was so close to her that he could feel his warm minty breath against her cheeks allowing the sparks to glide on her skin, making her shudder in the close proximity. A tingly warm feeling rushed to her veins. But no matter how addicting the sensation it brings to her, she cannot put her mind to it because the dread and terror were winning on her. She was very dumbfounded and perplexed as to why her mate was in the company of Bryan. Her brain floundered for a moment and every part of her body went into a pause as her thoughts caught up.
Her mate found her. In just a matter of four days, Dimitri managed to find her.
She tried to wiggle her body out of his tight hold on her waist but his grip only tightened, causing a low whimper to escape her lips. An innocent voice brings her out of her silent struggle, making her frozen on her spot. Casting her gaze behind her mate, she saw Brielle looking at them with her brows knitted in confusion while her mother was casually sitting on the couch with a smirk plastered on her face. A malevolent glimmer was in her eyes, leaving her to assume that the woman had something to do with her demise at the moment.
"Who are you, Mister? Why are you holding Valerie like that?" Brielle questioned, crossing her arms. "She's daddy's soon-to-be girlfriend, you know."
Upon hearing that, Sally quickly got on her feet and pulled her daughter to her side, cupping her small face, not wanting her child to spare the other woman in the room even a glance. "No, Brielle, honey. She is Valerie's boyfriend and Daddy doesn't like her. He was just here to pick up Valerie" she said, smiling rather sweetly.
"Is that true?" the little girl diverted her attention from her mother to Valine and sadly asked.
"Brielle, that... that is... " Valine tried to explain but she could not process an excuse. She was so shocked and her mind was in a frenzy. What would she even say to a child? That the man was her soulmate? And she runs from him? She doesn't know what to say.
Seeing the absence of a sensible reaction from her, Dimitri confronted the little child, hands still around her trembling form. "Yes, little girl. Valerie is my girlfriend" he shifted his gaze to Valine, tucking a strand of her dazzling hair behind her ear, and with a little grip on her side, her mournful eyes, at last, looked at him. "Right, honey?"
Valine nibbled her quivering lower lip as she peered down, nodding, not being able to look at the little girl. She cannot bear to lie looking at the trusting eyes of the child that she learned to adore. Her hand tightly clutched the suit jacket of Dimitri, feeling herself shaking. The lock of his arms on her waist hindered her from holding on to anything for support but him.
"You didn't tell me that you had a boyfriend that brought you, Valerie?" Sally mocked, grinning after knowing that the woman sold herself to a powerful man in exchange for money. She came to realize this after an unknown man came to her loft and showed her an image of Valine, inquiring as to whether she knew the one who took her. A large sum of money was given to her after she gave the information about Bryan and agreed that she would assist the woman with coming to the company. It was all to get Valine out of their life.
"Truly a slut are you?" she taunted.
Realization struck Valine hard as Sally's words registered in her mind. She didn't tell anyone that she had been brought, but the woman appeared to have more than an idea.
"What did you say?" Her voice was low, eyes narrowed into slits at the woman. "You, you lured me here, didn't you?" It was not a question anymore. She was sure Sally had done something leading her to her nightmare.
"I just answered Mr. Creighton's question. No hard feelings" Sally shrugged nonchalantly before pulling her daughter out of the room.
As soon as Brielle was out of sight, Valine started to face her mate with a hostile glare, swinging her hands on his chest angrily, wanting nothing but to be out of his touch. Her chest heaved up and down. It was not long before her punches were caught by his hands easily while his other hand was still wrapped around her waist.
"Let me go!" she yelled sharply "Let me the damn go!"
A deafening snarl rippled in Dimitri's throat in warning, "I will never let you go," he ground out through clenched teeth. His jaw is tight and his hands gripped her wrist tighter. "The earlier you acknowledge that fact, the earlier you won't be harmed."
"You don't want me, so let's stop this game" Valine pressed once more, putting logic in their situation. "Reject me and I guarantee you that I will never be in your way."
Dimitri smirks in pure evil. "You going my way will not hurt me, sweetheart. So drop that request before you regret it", he leaned even closer, brushing his nose against her cheek and murmuring in her ear "Because I have a lot of ideas about hurting the man you ran away with. Bryan's the name, right?"
Valine's blood ran cold, and dread shuddered in her stomach as she moved her eyes brimmed with tears to her mate. His stares were gleaming at her defeat. Salty tears kept on rolling down her cheeks yet she just gazed at his furtive eyes as anger and frustration crashed into her once again.
"Don't! Don't you dare touch him!" she threatened, despite the fact that it was vain. "He was out of this!"
"Tsk, tsk, tsk" Dimitri shook his head, faking dissatisfaction. "That's where you're wrong, my sweet Valine, the moment he drove you away from the hotel, he was involved in our little game. "
"He was a human!" Valine cried resentfully.
"I know, that's why I will play as a human would."
"You can't" Valine pitifully murmured, seeming like she was attempting to persuade herself now.
Dimitri sighed and stroked her cheeks. She didn't flinch or react when he brought his thumb to wipe her tears as if she was paralyzed with fear and shock. "I can, Valine. No matter where you hide, in the world of humans or in our kind, I can do something, I can find you. You can run, but you cannot be free from me"
With a deadpan expression, he grabbed her upper arm and hauled her out of the room. She tried to pry her arm away from his steel grasp but he did not have any of it. Last time, when he let her out of her sight, she escaped and it drove his wolf insane that he almost killed his men that were supposed to guard their hotel door. It was still maddening him thinking about it back. How his mate generally refuses his touch and runs away from him that day.
"Where are we going?" Valine frantically pulled her arm as they were treading to the other door on the floor where she was certain where Bryan was. "I will go with you! Please, stop. Let's just leave."
That made Dimitri stop in his tracks and confronted her with an apathetic facade. "You will certainly come with me. But first, I want to show you that whether it was human or the werewolf community, you will be disregarded in the end."
Despite the bitter words he threw at her, she overlooked her messed-up state and pleaded once more with her hands desperately gripping his arm to stop him. "No, please, no. He was a human for goodness sake!"
"Don't leave this door", Dimitri ordered one of his warriors that was standing at the office door, completely ignoring the plea of his mate. He brought some of his warriors from his pack here in the city, not risking anything now, after knowing that a human had taken a liking to his mate. Another warrior of his opened the door for them. His smirk widens when he sees the human his sweet Valine stayed with, ignorantly sitting on the couch across from Darren, who stood up upon his entrance. It didn't go unnoticed to him how his mate went silent as soon as they entered.
"Mr. Creighton" Darren addressed, standing up. This caught the attention of Bryan, who also got on his feet and turned around with a polite smile on his face to meet the man behind the large company he wished to have ties with, but his smile faltered upon seeing the familiar man and the woman next to him.
"Mr. Bryan Smith" Dimitri greeted him, tugging Valine behind him. He made his way to the seat his gamma occupied a while ago and sat while he took his mate's hand on Darren to hold.
Bryan, who was shocked to even sit, stared at Valine, who was not meeting his gaze. She had her bright auburn hair covering the side of her face while the man he had talked to just a minute ago was securely holding her down. He had so many questions swirling in his head, such as why Valine was in his company and how she was found.
Then, as everything sank in, he realized one thing. Mr. Creighton and the man that Valine escaped from were the same people. His hand balled in a fist as he gave the man a hard glare. He strode towards Valine but before he could touch a single strand of her hair, Darren, the secretary of Mr. Creighton, blocked him with apathetic eyes. He subconsciously took a step back from the intimidating aura the man had all of a sudden that was different from his friendly appearance when he was talking about business. Just who are these people?
"Still wanting to be a hero, Mr. Bryan, aren't we?" Dimitri said, crossing his legs, entertained at the attempt of the human.
