Chapter 232: The Boredom
While everything outside the salt circle seemed to have disappeared into oblivion for those within its confines, those outside its borders were continuing to live their lives as if nothing were amiss. Everyone except Clayton, that is.
As soon as he had closed the salt circle, a haze seemed to settle over the standing stones. He could see movement within the circle, but it was blurry, like he was wearing glasses that were too strong for his eyes. He also noted that he couldn't hear Matt or Camden's voices anymore, aside from some strange, occasional whispering. "Camden?!" he called, waiting in vain for a response. He made his way around the circle, hoping it was just his imagination or some trick of the light or some atmospheric pressure anomaly or something, but he walked the whole way around the circle and there was no change in visibility. It was as if everything inside the salt line was shrouded in some kind of ethereal mist.
