CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE - Mending Fences with Borrowed Time
Then, one by one, they began to join in. Soon, the room was filled with the sound of laughter, echoing off the water-logged walls.
As Ava sat there, surrounded by her soaking wet, absolutely bonkers family, she realized that despite all the craziness - or perhaps because of it - there was nowhere else she'd rather be.
The blaring of sirens jolted Ava from her sleep. She groaned, rubbing her eyes as she glanced at the clock. 6:30 AM. Way too early for any Hart family drama.
"What now?" she muttered, stumbling out of bed and towards her window. Red and blue lights flashed in the driveway, illuminating a police cruiser.
Ava threw on a robe and rushed downstairs, nearly colliding with her cousin Freddy in the hallway.
"What's going on?" she asked.
Freddy shrugged, his bedhead defying gravity. "Dunno. But I heard Uncle Bob yelling something about Bessie."
"Oh no," Ava groaned. "Not again."
