223 Curiosity and Empathy
“So, what are you doing here?” Henry broke the silence, glad it was finally he and Cecilia that we were alone.
She raised her brow. “Why? Is there a reason I can't be here?” she said, defensively and mentally slapped herself. Seriously? Are you getting defensive over a mere question? It wasn't as though she found what he said offensive but just being around him made her so nervous that she didn't know how to react. She took deep breaths and added. “Sorry, I didn't mean to sound defensive. I've just been on edge all day due to something unimportant that happened,” She lied.
“I'm sorry. I hope you're okay now though,” he said and she nodded.
“Yeah, I'm good and as for why I'm here,” She said calmly and looked in the direction of the house. “I'm here with my friend, indirect in-law and my student. I didn't want to stay home alone so I accompanied her here and well, that's that.”
“Your indirect in-law and student?” He asked, confusion evident in his tone.
She nodded. “Yup!’
