Two months had painted Haverbrocks Manor in hues of domestic bliss. The early morning light found Lucian perched on the rocking chair, a gurgling William nestled comfortably in his arms. Jane, her face flushed from sleep, watched the scene with a soft smile.
"He's got your stubborn chin," she observed, her voice barely a whisper.
Lucian chuckled, tracing a finger along William's tiny button nose. "And your fierce spirit, I'd wager."
William let out a happy gurgle, his chubby hands grasping at the air. Lucian bounced him gently, a sense of contentment washing over him. Life in Haverbrocks had settled into a beautiful rhythm – the cooing of his son, the warmth of Jane by his side, the familiar routine that held so much comfort.
But their peaceful morning was shattered by a pounding on the front door. Annoyance flickered across Lucian's face."Who could that be at this hour?" he muttered, carefully placing William in his crib.
