The booming voice that had interrupted Lucian's plea softened with a jolt of recognition. The knight, dismounting his steed with surprising agility for a man clad in such heavy armor, approached them, his gaze lingering on Lucian and Gareth's worn but unmistakable knightly attire.
"Sir Lucian of Ashford? Sir Gareth?" The knight's voice dropped to a hesitant murmur. "Forgive my brashness. I… I did not recognize you in such a state."
Lucian, surprised by the abrupt shift, simply nodded, his throat too dry to speak. Gareth, however, was not so easily appeased.
"State? We've traversed demon-infested forests and fought creatures out of nightmares to bring a message of dire importance, only to be met with suspicion!" he barked, his voice hoarse from exhaustion but laced with righteous anger.
The knight's face flushed. "My apologies, sirs," he repeated, bowing his head slightly. "The situation is… tense. Lord Edgar received word of your arrival and your… unorthodox tale. He instructed me
