"We can't outrun them," she said, her voice laced with a desperate calmness. "We need to create a diversion."
Lucian's eyes narrowed. He looked around, his gaze falling on a pile of loose planks propped up against a nearby shed. A sly grin tugged at the corner of his lips.
"Alright," he said, his voice low. "But we need to buy ourselves some time. Are you ready for a crazy plan?"
Jane met his gaze, a spark of amusement dancing in her own eyes. "Always," she replied, a playful smirk playing on her lips.
"Alright, pirates," Lucian boomed, channeling his inner Captain Jack Sparrow (though with slightly less eyeliner). "Fancy a little game of pirate chess, aye?"
