Chapter 106 Injured
The carriage wheels screeched to a halt, throwing Jane and the unconscious Lucian forward. She winced, ignoring the throbbing pain in her own arm, and focused on her companion. His face was pale and clammy, the crimson stain on his shirt growing larger by the second.
"There!" she cried, spotting a ramshackle-looking inn nestled against the side of a dusty road. It wasn't much to look at, but it was their only hope.
Bursting through the creaking door, she scanned the dimly lit room. A lone figure sat hunched over a cluttered table, his head buried in a large, dusty tome.
"Doctor? Is there a doctor here?" Jane's voice cracked with fear.
The figure slowly raised his head, revealing a face etched with wrinkles and framed by a wild mane of white hair. His cloudy blue eyes settled on Lucian, then flickered to Jane.
"Seems you got yourself a wounded one there, miss," he rasped, his voice dry as parchment.
"He needs help! Please, can you take a look at him?"
