CHAPTER 54 WEAKNESS OF A COWARD IS A COWARD
Evans stood, frozen, his hands trembling at his sides. He wanted to protest, to defend himself, but the words died on his lips. He knew that everything Susan said was true.
"I'm sorry," Evans whispered, his voice filled with regret and shame. "I'm so sorry, Susan. I know I've failed you."
Susan, her eyes cold and hard, turned away from him, her jaw clenched.
"Save it," she snapped, her voice like the crack of a whip. "I don't want to hear your apologies, Evans. I don't want anything from you. You're pathetic."
She took a few steps away from him, her shoulders stiff and straight.
Evans, his heart racing, tried to salvage what little dignity he had left. "Susan, please," he pleaded, his voice raw with desperation. "I promise, it won't happen again. I swear. I'll never let anyone hurt you like that again. Just give me another chance."
