CHAPTER 42 THE UNWELCOME VISITOR
"Rest easy," Caleb said, pausing in the doorway, his eyes lingering on Juliet's face for a moment longer before he turned and walked away. "Daniel can't hurt you anymore. I'll make sure of that. He's weak, he's emotional, and he's not nearly as clever as he thinks he is. He'll be no match for us."
Juliet watched as the door clicked shut behind him, the finality of his words ringing in her ears.
As Juliet stood alone in the room, the silence of her thoughts growing louder by the minute, a voice of doubt began to whisper in the back of her mind.
"Can Caleb really keep Daniel quiet?" she wondered, her brow furrowing in concern. "Will he really be able to stop him from exposing our affair to my mother? What if Daniel finds a way to turn the tables? What if he decides to tell my mother everything?"
The more she thought about it, the more uncertain she became. She trusted Caleb, she knew his cunning and his ruthless determination. But was it enough?
