CHAPTER 291: MEETING OLD ALLIES
Daniel rubbed his temples, feeling the beginnings of a headache. "I'll talk to her. Try to smooth things over."
Emily gave him a small, reassuring smile. "Thank you, Daniel. I'll start packing up our things."
As Daniel approached Susan later that evening, he found her standing by the window, staring out at the darkening sky. He cleared his throat awkwardly, unsure of how to begin.
"Susan," he started cautiously, "I just wanted to say... I'm sorry."
Susan turned to face him, her expression guarded. "For what?"
"For everything," Daniel replied earnestly. "For the trouble I've caused, for betraying your trust. I never meant for things to turn out like this."
Susan studied him for a long moment, her gaze searching his face. "You have a funny way of showing it," she remarked dryly.
Daniel took a step closer to her, his voice low and sincere. "I don't expect your forgiveness, Susan. But I do hope you can understand."
