Maya nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah, I feel like a queen here. I could get used to this kind of life.”
Susan chuckled, clearly enjoying their enthusiasm. “Well, you’re all welcome here. It’s nice to have such lively company.”
As the meal continued, Juliet found herself drawn into the conversation, slowly relaxing as the warmth of the family’s camaraderie enveloped her. She tried to push away the turmoil in her heart, focusing on the present moment.
Caleb, despite his own heartache, watched Juliet closely. He could see the conflict in her eyes, the way she forced herself to engage in the conversation. His own pain mirrored hers, but he knew he had to respect her choice, no matter how much it hurt.
After breakfast, the family lingered at the table, sipping coffee and continuing their chatter. Juliet excused herself, feeling the need for some fresh air. As she stepped outside into the garden, she took a deep breath, letting the cool morning air soothe her troubled mind.
