CHAPTER 136: THE BARTENDER, THE GIRLFRIEND AND THE DYING DANVERS
Fido obeyed immediately, dipping the towel in the hot water and gently applying it to Caleb's forehead. He could feel the heat radiating from Caleb's skin, and he prayed that the fever would break soon.
Maya continued to work, her hands moving quickly and confidently as she cleaned and dressed Caleb's wounds. Finally, she stepped back, wiping the sweat from her brow.
"He's stable for now," she said, her voice weary as he stopped jerking. "But we need to keep an eye on him.
He's lost a lot of blood, and the fever could get worse."
Fido nodded, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. "Thank you," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "I don't know what I would have done without you."
Fido and Maya exchanged a small, tired smile as they looked down at Caleb's still form. His body was no longer jerking and twitching with pain, and his breathing had slowed to a more regular rhythm.
"He's resting more peacefully now," Maya said, her voice soft. "I think the fever has broken."
