CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY ONE – THE BOND OF THE PACK
The next few hours were a whirlwind of introductions and tense conversations. Cassie tried her best to be polite and engaging, but she could feel the skepticism and judgment radiating from many of the pack members.
As they approached a group near the fireplace, Cassie overheard a snippet of conversation.
"...can't believe Sorin is even entertaining this. A human in our midst? It's dangerous."
Cassie felt her cheeks flush. Before Florian could stop her, she stepped forward. "Excuse me, but I couldn't help overhearing. I understand your concerns, but I assure you, I mean no harm to anyone here."
The group fell silent, staring at her with a mixture of surprise and disdain. One woman, tall and elegant with silver-streaked hair, spoke up.
"And what makes you think you can assure us of anything, child? You know nothing of our ways, our struggles."
